ART AND ACTIVISM

Public Square and Rustic Expeditions Present Powerful Exhibition Exploring African Womanhood

Public Square, a think tank dedicated to civic engagement and fostering a progressive Ugandan society, is proud to have partnered with Rustic Expeditions to present a groundbreaking exhibition by artist Pamela Enyonu. This exhibition marked a homecoming for Enyonu, showcasing her evocative and insightful artistic practice to a Ugandan audience.

Enyonu's art offers a powerful exploration of womanhood, identity, and the lived experiences of African women. Her captivating portraits and mixed media works challenge established narratives, unveiling the beauty, complexity, and quiet strength of her subjects. She delves into the spaces women inhabit, the social dynamics they navigate, and how these environments shape and are shaped by them.

This inaugural Ugandan exhibition lays a compelling foundation for Enyonu's continued exploration of vital themes within contemporary African womanhood. Public Square is committed to supporting artists like Enyonu, whose work aligns with our mission:

  • Supporting Artists: We believe that art has the power to transform and inspire. We support artists and collectives across diverse categories, including visual arts, literature, performance, and more.

  • Fostering Youth Advocacy: Our programs empower young people to engage in civic and democratic initiatives, amplifying their voices for positive change.

  • Providing Resources and Mentorship: We connect artists with resources and mentors, enabling them to create impactful work that resonates with youth and drives meaningful conversations.

We believe revitalizing civic engagement through artistic expression is crucial in building a progressive Ugandan society. By highlighting artists like Pamela Enyonu, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the issues that shape our communities and inspire action grounded in fairness, justice, and the protection of civil liberties for all.
