Open letter to President Yoweri Museveni

Mr. President,

We, the concerned citizens of Uganda, write to you not as adversaries, but as your constituents deeply troubled by recent revelations. The #UgandaParliamentExhibition campaign has exposed a concerning lack of transparency and accountability within our government. These issues cannot be ignored.

We, the people who entrust you with our hard-earned tax shillings, deserve better. The campaign has shed light on alleged corruption, wasteful spending, and nepotism – practices that directly contradict your own pronouncements.

In a recent speech, you powerfully declared “The corrupt are the minority and it is those who have access to power and  public money and they use that access to be corrupt at the expense of the majority who are the victims. It is, however, easy to trace these parasites and smoke them out."

These words must translate into decisive action. If those involved in corruption are few and easily identifiable, Mr. President, why does the public remain uninformed about concrete  measures to address it?

Persistent corruption erodes the very  foundation of our nation. How can true progress emerge from a system compromised by self-enrichment?

You, Mr. President, have spoken of transparent, informed exchange and social cohesion. Yet, these principles seem absent when public  resources disappear. Is this a necessary sacrifice for peace? If not, we implore you to champion the healing of Ugandan society. Your actions shape the nation; we cannot build an equitable future on disregarded promises.

Fellow citizens, the evidence demands our attention. We must transcend partisan divides and hold our leaders, including the President himself, to a higher standard of governance. Mr. President, your legacy hinges on whether you fight the corruption that plagues our nation. We  challenge you to take swift, decisive action.

In the fight against corruption, silence breeds complicity. Together, we can build the Uganda we deserve – one where every shilling serves the public good, and transparency prevails.

 Sincerely,

Public Square
